چکیده

Complex interactions between hydraulic fractures and natural often result in highly complex fracture networks that might lead to bypassed resources damaging the economic viability of developments. In this study impact formation on production from hydraulically fractured wells is studied using a recently developed upscaling method (FUM). By capturing distribution FUM, novel idea changing well orientation optimise recovery proposed. It shown with spacing 15 m small change up 30° standard can increase by 15% for at an angle least 60° ?hmax. The increased stress complementing each other assist propagation deeper into formation. also as density increases (fracture decreases) effect becomes more significant. Changing when there are two perpendicular planes investigated. However, no optimal be found these cases, suggesting needs strong average directionality reservoir support beneficial change. A simple analysis shows allow larger which could direct reduction cost developing shale reservoir. results show positive has NPV project different gas prices, rapid status reducing risk investment.

Hydraulic Fracturing of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

A carefully engineered stimulation that makes use of opening mode fractures is an effective way to reduce injection and production impedance and provide better access for the fluid to enter and promote shearing in the main reservoir volume. We present results from field experiments that mapped the fracture geometry for opening mode hydraulic fractures formed in naturally fractured crystalline r...

Numerical Modeling of Variable Fluid Injection-Rate Modes on Fracturing Network Evolution in Naturally Fractured Formations

In this study, variable injection-rate technology was numerically investigated in a pre-existing discrete fracture network (DFN) formation, the Tarim Basin in China. A flow-stressdamage (FSD) coupling model has been used in an initial attempt towards how reservoir response to variable injection-rates at different hydraulic fracturing stages. The established numerical model simultaneously consid...

Microbial communities in flowback water impoundments from hydraulic fracturing for recovery of shale gas.

Hydraulic fracturing for natural gas extraction from shale produces waste brine known as flowback that is impounded at the surface prior to reuse and/or disposal. During impoundment, microbial activity can alter the fate of metals including radionuclides, give rise to odorous compounds, and result in biocorrosion that complicates water and waste management and increases production costs. Here, ...

Study of gas production from shale reservoirs with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing horizontal well considering multiple transport mechanisms

Development of unconventional shale gas reservoirs (SGRs) has been boosted by the advancements in two key technologies: horizontal drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing. A large number of multi-stage fractured horizontal wells (MsFHW) have been drilled to enhance reservoir production performance. Gas flow in SGRs is a multi-mechanism process, including: desorption, diffusion, and non-Da...
